The aim of the project is to support Gypsy young people living in social services to protect their rights and to encourage their active participation in the processes that affect them, through rights training and involvement of young people with different backgrounds.
The target groups of the project are eight Gypsy young people accommodated in the Observed Housing and Sheltered Homes for the Disabled at the “Gavrosh” Association, as well as 25 citizens with different expertise involved in volunteering activities. The main activities of the project are:
1. Assessment of the needs and knowledge of young people and human rights volunteers, normative documents, institutions related to their protection, areas of application, the need for support.
2. Practical training in law, opinion and active participation of Gypsy youth from the two services of the association.
3. Selection and involvement of young people and volunteers - we will attract up to 25 volunteers with different backgrounds to support young people.
4. Training of volunteers in understanding human rights, minorities, people with disabilities, normative documents and institutions responsible for the protection of rights, and the specificities of Gypsy youth in social services.
5. Surveying the environment and conducting an advocacy campaign on the issue of protecting the rights of Gypsy youth. In this activity we plan to hold four meetings of young people and volunteers with representatives of institutions, at which they will present their opinion on existing problems with their rights and ideas for solving them.
