20 years since the establishment of the ‘Gavroche” Association

On 13.03.2014 at 5 pm in the Art hall of the Varna Radio station the “Gavroche” Association marked its 20th jubilee. Among the guests of the official event were representatives of the Municipality of Varna, regional mayor’s offices, directors of directorships in the field of social support and protection of children, representatives of non-governmental organisations, of the Varna and Veliki Preslav Sacred Diocese, volunteers and pupils from schools in Varna. More than 300 gifts made Christmas a wonderful experience for the Gavroche children! In the campaign there took part pupils and parents from third-grade E in “G. S Rakovski” SS and the “Little prince” Private language school, Mr. Frank Ramsyoter from Germany, the “Andjeti” beauty parlor; Mrs. Tsvetanka Kovacheva, students and lecturers from TU-Varna, ADDRESS Real-estate agency AD, “Revolution of good”, “Rush hour”, citizens from Varna and the whole country. We thank everyone who made Christmas so magic!

From 1.12. there started the Christmas-and-New-year campaign of the “Gavroche” Association aimed at providing gifts for the children and young people with whom we work.

The “Gavroche” Association in Varna finished successfully the project “Building capacity in young Roma women for protection from violence”, financed by the “Prevention” Directorship in the Municipality of Varna. The project lasted for 5 months and targeted 39 young women from the Maksuda area who took part in 18 group sessions on topics concerning human trafficking, recognition of the types of violence, protection from sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy. In the last months the students from “N. Haitov” PHSFW and children from “Gavroche” made a decorative nook in the yard of the Association, a result of the project “The rock-garden – an alternative for protecting the environment” of the “European projects in Bulgaria” Association. They all made a survey of the terrain, projecting, preparation of the soil and planted plants. The aesthetic view of the rock-garden decorates the entrance to the Home and is a symbol of understanding and tolerance among young people.

“Picadilly”AD, branch “Palah” and the Bulgarian food bank made a donation of foodstuffs for the young people accommodated in the Protected homes of “Gavroche”. The team and the young people express their gratitude for this donation.
